I'll always give you clear advice so you can navigate any financial obstacles.
Not all FDs are the same. Identify the right one for your business with these simple guidelines. Most importantly -
Go direct The first and only person you speak to about engaging a Portfolio FD should always be the one you're looking to hire. |
There are many companies offering a range of Portfolio FDs who are immediately available to help your business. Plenty of their candidates have limited or no commercial experience, while others are still looking for a full time role so have opted for the portfolio route just to fill an employment gap. Some may never have had an FD role at all.
Being a Portfolio FD is a dedicated career, so personal recommendation is essential. Never employ a Portfolio FD without one and always ask to speak with their existing clients for a reference.
Focus on...
When you opt for a company that offers a range of Finance Directors, did you know their day rate could include up to 30% as an admin fee?
Always be clear about what you want your FD to do. Ensure you agree their remit in advance of engagement and, where possible, request a fixed fee arrangement.
Look for the right experience
A Portfolio FD has a different skill set to an interim FD and their full time equivalent. Years of experience in roles that include corporate finance, turnarounds and multinationals, rather than just preparing accounts every month, is what sets us apart.
Scrutinise the skill set of who you work with - don't just assume they can do it because they have the job title.

Choose Synergy
Many Portfolio FDs only work 9-5 and are rarely available outside of their contracted terms. So when you urgently need their advice and support, you may incur an additional fee.
Consider choosing a partner who is there for you, whenever you need them, evenings and weekends, at no extra cost. I offer to spend a few days with you to assess whether we're right for each other - free of charge - this is a risk-free way for you to evaluate our synergy and my advice. |
